However, downgraded biometrics, inconsistent photos, and poor sustained performance mean there's still some room for improvement.

If you care not for cameras and want to save some cash, then the OnePlus 15R is a stellar handset. It cuts all the right corners as a step down from the brand's top-tier OnePlus 15, with great battery and performance being its standout features. Just park your camera expectations to one side and you'll be a very happy customer indeed.

The OnePlus 15R is not a phone for everyone, but it is for people who know what they find important. If battery life, smooth daily use and a premium feel are at the top of your list, this is one of the strongest options in its class. Performance and battery life are fantastic but the lack of a telephoto camera keeps the OnePlus 15R from being the complete package

I don't get what OnePlus wants to achieve with the 15R; earlier devices in the R series delivered a good value and exceled as all-rounders, but you just don't get that here. Yes, you get a massive battery and great performance, but that's the case with every phone. OnePlus deciding to not include a dedicated telephoto camera on the 15R basically kills the device, even if it has a decent 50MP main lens. To make things worse, the OnePlus 15R costs $699, a $100 increase over the 13R. I just don't see the point of the phone, and it was annoying to use it in the week I tested it — if you need a value-focused phone, you need to get the 13R while it's still on sale.

With a 165Hz display, 7,400mAh battery, and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chip, the OnePlus 15R is a dream phone for spec-heads. While all of those things are great, missing features, confusing software choices, and another price increase make the 15R a complicated recommendation.

The OnePlus 15R is an excellent phone in some respects and merely adequate in others. The battery life is exceptional — truly best-in-class. Software is clean and functional, performance handles everything current apps and games demand, and the display is bright and smooth. But the camera system is only fine, not great, and the lack of wireless charging is frustrating at this price. If those things don't matter all that much to you and you have $700 to spend on a phone, then the OnePlus 15R is definitely worth considering.

At the start of this review, I noted that the OnePlus 15 is the best phone for those who don't care about photography. Honestly, however, it's a little more nuanced than that. You could care about photography, but not enough to really care about wanting the best smartphone camera if it means sacrificing the best smartphone battery. That's kind of the line you'll have to draw for yourself. The OnePlus 15 is an excellent phone. It's just not the best at every single thing. If battery life is a priority, you like OnePlus's software implementation, and you don't care as much about mobile photography as those other things, then the OnePlus 15 is probably the best phone for you.

The 165Hz display is perfect for mobile gaming, and when not gaming, it runs at 120Hz, making it ideal for everyday usage. The triple camera array is pretty great, and the 7,300mAh battery lasts multiple days on a single charge.

The OnePlus 15 is the best-finished Android phone of the year (in Sand Storm), complete with battery life that's so far ahead of the competition that it's no underdog – it should be considered shoulder to shoulder among its key competitors. Sure, the camera setup being the weaker link may have some bearing on its appeal – and the Oppo Find X9's enhanced camera offering is hard to ignore – but in the context of its lower asking price, OnePlus has otherwise delivered a superb performer that's a clear 5-star Android option.

The OnePlus 15 doesn’t reinvent the wheel — it perfects the drive. With the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, an enormous 7300mAh battery, and a refined design that feels delightfully premium, the OnePlus 15 continues the brand’s tradition of balanced excellence. The camera setup is more dependable than dazzling, the performance is class-leading, and battery life is borderline insane. Where it falters is in the small things, the missing Hasselblad partnership, the outdated charging cable, and a few software quirks. But those are nitpicks in what is otherwise one of the most cohesive flagship experiences of the year.

The OnePlus 15 is yet another extremely impressive phone that should be near the top of any new phone shopping lists; the display is immaculate, the cameras are excellent and the battery is revolutionary. Plus the Sand Storm colourway is one of the prettiest designs I've seen for a while.

The OnePlus 15 is better than perfect. It grants every smartphone wish I have and exceeds most expectations. If flagship performance and battery life are key, the OnePlus 15 is the phone you want

The OnePlus 15 is an improvement over the OnePlus 13 in many ways, including a faster processor, even better 165Hz OLED, improved camera quality, and an even more durable build. But the release is marred a bit by an overly generic design, the loss of some trademark OnePlus features, and software that can be buggy at times.
