netgem pleio freely review...
This titchy puck is you need to upgrade your telly to receive Freely channels and on-demand content over Wi-Fi. It’s well specified, but freedom from your traditional aerial doesn’t come cheap…
Pros
- Plug & Play simplicity
- Excellent picture quality
- Dolby Atmos support
Cons
- Games and FAST channels require subscription
- User experience could be slicker
- No Dolby Vision
Netgem Pleio review: the UK's first Freely set-top box is finally here...
The Pleio by Netgem is a remarkable little puck-like device that rivals the likes of Sky Stream and Virgin TV Stream by offering the UK's biggest channels front and centre. And you don't need an aerial or satellite dish, as everything is streamed live over the internet. There are a few minor quibbles at launch, including the lack of Dolby Vision support and one or two app inconsistencies, but considering it's also an Android TV streamer and cloud gaming hub, it's one of the most interesting entertainment devices we've seen in years.
Pros
- You can finally add Freely to any TV
- Powered by Android TV, so has all streaming apps you need
- Sleek and smooth user experience
- Includes cloud gaming access and Bluetooth controller
Cons
- No Dolby Vision support at launch
- Freely is free, but other channels will need a subscription
- No ports for external storage or Ethernet
